Conservation Biology for All
Edited by Navjot S. Sodhi and Paul R. Ehrlich

We are experiencing an era in which nature, the environment, and protection of the species and beings they harbor are becoming more and more popular and important, which is wonderful!
It is also wonderful to see Environmental Science, our beloved field, and activism are acclaimed by more and more people day by day.
If you are one of those people enjoying nature thriving around you and the world and involved with conservation, rewilding, planting, etc., Oxford has published a nice book that may be interesting.

Link to the Book

The Book’s Introduction
This book contains a series of authoritative chapters written by top names in conservation biology with the aim of disseminating cutting-edge conservation knowledge as widely as possible. Important topics such as balancing conversion and human needs, climate change, conservation planning, designing and analyzing conservation research, ecosystem services, endangered species management, extinctions, fire, habitat loss, and invasive species are covered. Numerous textboxes describing additional relevant material or case studies are also included.
Conservation Biology for All has been generously made available in its entirety here:

Causes.com, a meeting point for great campaigners and nonprofits

causes.com

Causes, one of the most popular online platforms, with easy integration with social networks, is also one of our favorites.
It offers the possibility of signing petitions and pledging for doing (or not doing) something that the campaigners deem important for our world.
However, people rarely pledge, but it could be a nice personal experience and improvement to add those pledges to your to-do lists. Causes.com will notify you about the time of your completing your pledge. We also have one of those rarely-pledged campaigns we think important, which is oriented not to consume caviar/roe much, while we consider 100 people a year will be enough because we expect mouth-to-mouth expansion of the idea over the years. You can view it and help us here (be ready for a horrendous naked truth!). https://www.causes.com/campaigns/102703-ensure-the-sustainability-of-the-declining-fish-populations?utm_campaign=search_widget
The only setback we think is you have to scroll down the pages again and again if you want to sign or pledge once again in the future. Hence, the website needs a better organization for easy access to the campaigns.

Notes of the website
Causes is the world's largest online campaigning platform
We want to empower anyone, anywhere to help change to the world

Founded in 2007 and located in San Francisco, CA, Causes is a tech company that provides people with the platform and tools required to make the world a better place. Discover, support, and organize campaigns around the issues that impact you and your community.

Importance of reefs and Coral Reef Alliance

Importance of reefs and Coral Reef Alliance

This post has been first published on the blog of our organization at: https://freecharityreviews.blogspot.com/

Coral reefs are thought to be the most diverse ecosystems and they are highly endangered as most of them are disappearing day by day.
There are numerous benefits of coral reefs, particularly in terms of providing habitat for numerous beings and creating livelihood in coastal areas.
WWF reports that “Coral reefs are home to 25% of all marine life on the planet.” Queensland Museum underlines the benefits of reefs on their website (http://www.qm.qld.gov.au) that they protect coastlines from the damaging effects of wave action and tropical storms, provide habitats and shelter for many marine organisms, are the source of nitrogen and other essential nutrients for marine food chains, assist in carbon and nitrogen fixing, and help with nutrient recycling.
Coral Reef Alliance is one of the serious nonprofits working for the benefits of corals operating since 1994, the year of its foundation. You can find volunteering opportunities and other ways to help on their website.

Notes of the website
There is no one-size-fits-all solution to conservation, nor is it possible to successfully conserve natural resources without buy-in from the people who are most closely connected to and rely on that resource. CORAL takes a multi-pronged approach to restoring and protecting coral reefs in partnership with the communities living nearest the reefs. Our strategies include:
§  Reducing local threats to reefs, including overfishing, poor water quality, and unsustainable development Learn More
§  Helping communities benefit socially, culturally, and economically from conservation Learn More
§  Improving reef management so those responsible for the creation, enforcement, and durability of protected areas have the tools and financial support they need to be successful Learn More
§  Working directly with the tourism industry to decrease its environmental footprint and to educate visitors about the beauty and importance of coral reefs Learn More
§  Ensuring that what we learn within our project sites has a global impact Learn More

Founded in 1987, Reef Relief is one of the deep seated and banner-bearing organizations when it comes to protection of oceans through reef campaigns and education, particularly around Florida, Bahamas, Cuba, and Jamaica.
It has implemented numerous projects so far, ranging from Clean Water Campaign to Coral Nursery Project, from installing reef mooring buoys to providing children with trainings about marine life.
If you are around the area, you and/or your children can take part in the activities oriented to coral ecosystems, which will assuredly be a nice experience and which might be a lifetime interest for the kids.

Unfortunately, it is much easier to throw things out than littering them as necessary for many people around the world. This ends up with dirty seas, lakes, creeks, and oceans. The impact of the plastics –and other noxious wastes to name- thrown into waters on the aquatic beings is so much that many people remain desperate, although there are good developments resulting from the efforts of the scientific world. In our opinion, they are about to end plastic pollution at waters in a few decades.
However, some people and organizations are aware of the fact that immediate actions must be taken. Ocean Conservancy (https://oceanconservancy.org/) is one of them and has initiated the largest international cleanup program. The organization asserts that 12 million people have taken part in the program and it is counting.
You can volunteer with them or alone at anywhere. The website offers opportunities for finding a site nearby you. By the way, it is a wonderful way of exercising. You will feel the nice physical tiredness when you get back home.

Notes of the website
Nearly 12 million people and counting have been part of the world’s biggest volunteer effort to protect the ocean. Will you join us this year?
Today, plastic has been found in 62% of all sea birds and in 100% of sea turtle species.
A problem as big as plastic in the ocean requires a big response! By participating in the International Coastal Cleanup, you can make a difference. You’ll join millions of volunteers just like you, who love the ocean and want to protect it. This year’s International Coastal Cleanup is Saturday, September 16th, 2017.

As we noted in our previous post, the impact of the plastics –and other noxious wastes to name- thrown into waters on the aquatic beings is so much that many people remain desperate, although there are good developments resulting from the efforts of the scientific world.
Ocean Conservancy (https://oceanconservancy.org/) takes charge of such efforts on the nonprofits side and creates various programs, projects, and activities. We are lucky we have been somehow involved with it for about a decade.

Ocean Conservancy is working with you to protect the ocean from today’s greatest global challenges.

Almost all of us are aware of the crucial role biodiversity in nature plays in our lives. Under the threat of plastics and overfishing for many decades, our waters are rapidly losing their livelihood and diversity.

If you live nearby a coastal area, it is nice idea to volunteer for biodiversity building a reef. The period of observing its progress toward the creation of an animated environment in the course of time can be exciting.

Especially the crustaceans accumulating on your reef will clean some part of the water and bring it back to natural condition.

Below, you can find a technique for building a reef. Or you can create your own style.

One thing is important: no plastic or rubber thing (like ropes or automobile tires, bottles etc.) must be used.
